Can you play on Android yet?

Android development exists: dodola and vickwv maintain experimental work, and vickwv documents gameplay on a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone. That is not the same as a stable, supported release. We have not verified a consumer-ready APK in the reviewed repositories, and we have not tested the game on an Android device ourselves.

What has actually progressed

The Apple-focused upstream project is not the only relevant repository. dodola's fork adds Android host and Vulkan work; vickwv's integration branch develops and profiles a working Android path.

The engineering notes, reviewed on October 17, describe real-device runs on Xiaomi 22081212C, using Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 / Adreno 730. They discuss rendering fixes, frame pacing, shader-pipeline caching and sustained play. This is stronger evidence than an empty repository or a port request.

What the performance report does—and does not—show

Across different revisions and test conditions, the developer records frame rates roughly in the 17–44 FPS range. One longer reported play session averages around 36 FPS. Those figures are not a single reproducible benchmark or a promise for your device.

The notebook revises earlier hypotheses and reports regressions. In particular, queueing and rendering-translation costs are investigated across changing implementations. Do not turn one early CPU or thermal explanation into a permanent conclusion. We do not publish per-dungeon numbers because the reviewed notes do not establish a consistent scene-by-scene benchmark table.

This guide has not reproduced the build, run a phone test or checked every possible GPU. Claims about driver support, texture formats and battery life must be verified for the exact build and device.

Is it suitable for an ordinary installation guide?

Not yet at the same level as the Apple documentation. The reviewed work is developer-oriented and involves source builds, native tooling and manual game-file setup. A rendering fix on one Adreno device does not prove stability on other Snapdragon generations, Mali GPUs or different Android versions.

Before a beginner-friendly guide can recommend it, we would want a traceable release, documented build provenance, clear device requirements, a complete install procedure and repeatable gameplay reports. If a new release appears, check its own documentation rather than assuming these dated notes still describe it.

Three routes are often confused

Route Where the game runs Current decision
D2R Mobile Android community port Locally on the phone Experimental; follow the named developers.
Windows or Switch compatibility/emulation tools Locally on the phone through another runtime Separate projects with device- and build-specific results; not validated by this handbook.
PC streaming with Sunshine and Moonlight On your PC An established streaming option, not a native Android port.

Do not confuse original Diablo II or Project Diablo 2 videos with Diablo II: Resurrected. We also do not conclude that every other emulator is unusable simply because this port exists.

If you choose streaming

Install Sunshine on a suitable PC and Moonlight Android on your phone, following their current official instructions. Confirm that the PC game works first, then pair over a trusted network and try a compatible controller.

Streaming still needs the PC running. Network delay, decoding, resolution and controls affect the result; no fixed frame rate or latency is guaranteed here. Avoid exposing a host's administration interface directly to the internet.

Avoid misleading APK pages

An APK filename containing “D2R Mobile” is not evidence of provenance or permission. Use the repository history and maintainer release links to establish where a build came from. Never enter Battle.net credentials into an unrelated mobile download page; the documented D2R Mobile project is offline-only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download a stable D2R Mobile APK here?

No. This guide does not provide APK downloads. No stable consumer APK has been verified in the repositories we reviewed; check the named maintainers' current releases rather than an unrelated download page.

Has anybody actually entered gameplay on Android?

Yes, the vickwv development notes report gameplay and profiling on Xiaomi 22081212C with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Adreno 730. It is a developer report, not independent testing by this site or proof that every Android phone works.

Can I play on my phone without waiting for the port?

If you have a PC that already runs your purchased D2R copy, Sunshine and Moonlight can stream it to Android. The PC still runs the game; your phone receives video and sends controls. Quality depends on your PC, connection and input setup.
